Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris is finally set to reopen its doors on Friday 3rd May 2019. The announcement was made at an InsideEars event by Tom Fitzgerald, Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering who has been overseeing the renovation project.
Phantom Manor closed way back on 8th January 2018 for a major renovation as part of Project Sparkle, a project to refurbish and renew several of the major attractions around Disneyland Paris. Initially expected to be closed for approximately 9 months the reopening date has been pushed back several times as it was communicated that additional work was needed to be done that had been previously thought.
During the Disney Fandaze event in July 2018 guests were informed by Tom Fitzgerald during a conference that a major reimagining of the attraction was underway and that some of the story elements would be altered and that the identity of the phantom would be revealed. Walt Disney Imagineering were also working on bringing back the original spiel that was recorded by the late Vincent Price back into the attraction, this was removed in the early 90’s as it was difficult to for French guests to understand.
In the recent Inside event Tom Fitzgerald spoke of more of the story changes that have been made to Phantom Manor and revealed the identity of the phantom to be non other then Melaine’s farther, Henry Ravenswood and the confirmation that Vincent Price’s spiel would return and that the attraction would be in both French and English. In addition many of the scenes have been reworked to include new effects and special attention was given to the seance room, Thunder Mesa and the final scene where Melanie may have a proposition for guests.
